Dr. Michael Burch, MB ChB, MD, FRCP, FRCPCH         


Michael serves as Head of Department for Cardiology at GOSH, a Specialty Lead with a team of 18 consultants. He is also the Director for Cardiothoracic Transplantation and has consultancy experience since 2001. In addition, Dr. Burch serves as an Associate Editor of the journal ‘Heart’, which is part of the BMJ group.

About Us

The Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has the largest paediatric congenital heart failure unit in the UK and is a leading British academic research institution for child health. The hospital’s international renown in a wide range of areas in child health includes a stellar reputation in paediatric cardiology research. Over 550 paediatric bypass operations and over 1,000 paediatric cardiothoracic operations are performed each year. In addition, an average of 19 heart transplants is performed each year. It is one of only 2 centres in the United Kingdom to offer advanced heart failure therapy and mechanical


The Paediatric Congenital Heart Failure Unit at GOSH has been running for over ten years and was the first such clinic in the UK. Approximately 10-20 children on long term medications are seen each week. All necessary facilities for echocardiography measurements and a full laboratory are available.
