About Heinrich-Heine-Universität (UDUS)

The Institute of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (UDUS) is uniquely poised at the interface of medicine and pharmacy. The department is integrated into the Department of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The institute is equipped with HPLC with MS/MS, UV and fluorescence detection equipment, and relevant IT infrastructure with all required pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) software packages. With its expertise in developmental pharmacology of cardiovascular diseases, its expertise in paediatric pharmacoepidemiology, paediatric analytics as well as modelling and simulation, the Institute translates the drug development challenges into the treatment of paediatric cardiovascular diseases, and is therefore uniquely suited to coordinate the work to be performed as part of this important project as well as carry out the research work listed above.

We are taking over different tasks in this project:

  • Overall coordination of the project
  • Lead institution for the work packages Scientific Management and Joint Data Analysis (work package 1), Development and Provision of Modeling and Simulation Tools (work package 05), Education of the Scientific and Clinical Community (work package 12), and Project Management (work package 15)
  • Participation in the work packages Pharmaceutical Development (work package 2), Pharmacoenomics & Commercialization (work package 14)

We bring various hands-on expertise to this project:

  • Experience in management and leadership of institutes; leading position in the only international professional society for developmental pharmacology, the European Society of Developmental Paediatric and Perinatal Pharmacology (ESDP).
  • Extensive expertise on paediatric modelling and simulation techniques and in drug analyses in small-volume paediatric samples according to GCLP standards.
  • Experience in the development of a case study on European drug utilization for Low Cardiac Output Syndrome (see EuLoCOS-Paed) and deployment as a survey to European Paediatric Cardiology Centres.
Extensive experience in developing teaching tools for undergraduate and graduate students. The PhD graduate school iGrad imparts training in soft skills (e.g. GSP, presenting science, and writing skills) for young researchers.
  • Extensive expertise in the regulatory processes of paediatric medicines, external advisor and reviewer for European Medicines Agency (EMA), European Commission and national authorities.
  • Editorial  experience  with  peer-reviewed  international  scientific  journals:  Archives  of  Disease  in  Childhood–drug section.
