About Us

Although the Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität (PMU) was founded as recently as 2003, it has already served as coordinator and partner in several projects within the EU Seventh Framework (FP7) programme. Expert guidance as well as biostatistical and other services provided by the university’s research office and the Clinical Research Centre Salzburg GmbH (CRCS) together produce excellent research data, as is evident from the ten-fold increase in PMU’s scientific output over the last ten years. The CRCS, a subsidiary of PMU and its university hospitals (Salzburger Landeskliniken), currently coordinates more than 60 industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials besides running an extensive training programme for investigators, clinical research associates and study nurses. Biostatistics and data management are key services provided by the CRCS to investigator-initiated trials.

The LENA team at PMU is led by Dr. Florian Lagler, MD, Paediatrician, Clinical Pharmacologist and Clinical Researcher. He recently contributed to the clinical development of an orphan drug (5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin; EU/3/03/163) and is therefore familiar with designing and implementing clinical trials that fulfill all quality criteria for drug approval. Dr. Lagler has demonstrated his advising and teaching capabilities in the field of GCP and similar topics of relevance to clinical investigators in the LENA project, for example as a partner in the GRIP/ESDP joint training programme in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology.
