Work package 12: Education of the Scientific and Clinical Community
Work package leader
Description of the work package
This work package 12 is focusing on the standard of care for children with DCM across Europe.
In the current situation wherein evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of DCM in children are lacking, the standard of care depends largely on the individual expertise in the centres. That differences in individual clinical experiences of the treating physicians cause pronounced variability in treatment plans implemented at each centre has been demonstrated for the prevention and treatment of the low cardiac output syndrome in children. It is therefore necessary to implement a training network that spans the whole LENA project to make individual treatment expertise of each participating clinical partner and other important centres in Europe accessible to all physicians taking care of heart failure paediatric patients.
- The first step to achieve the aim is documenting the standard of care across Europe.
- This step will then be followed by a thorough analysis of the gathered data and discussion of the results results wih a selected panel of European experts in this field. A consensus forming process will therefore be used.
- This final consensus statement will reflect ist cumulative experience and may be adapted by the participating clinicians to form the basis of standardized treatment.
- We aim to provide standardized training on established treatments for DCM in paediatrics to the scientific and clinical community and to organize public seminars on the scientific background and meaning of DCM in children.
